The following are necessary expectations to which all who attend must accept:
- Reserving spot: $25 per family is needed to begin planning – usually due in January (refundable)
- Registration:$100 per person – same for adults and youth – needed to secure your commitment. Due date (April 1?) is determined by group. This is nonrefundable. (Talk with pastor or Youth Ministry Team for assistance).
- Parents (or grandparent, god-parent) have asserted the great benefit of sharing this experience with their child(ren). BUT youth are most welcome even if parents are unable to come along.
- Faith and relationships are the essence of this trip. The goal is to stretch our thinking and experience and deepen our relationship with God, family, life, community, creation, ego, and eternity.
- The following are necessary for all those attending this trip, both youth and adults:
- commit to caring for each other: acting as a group, doing chores, and engaging in conversations and devotions
- willingness to grow and be challenged in faith, relationships and soaking in God’s creation (phones)
- work on physical conditioning in general, with your backpack, and including diet & sleep
- know trip details, goals and chores,
- have proper gear purchasing or borrowing individual gear and assist with preparing group gear
- participate in fundraisers: selling the gift cards, companion & Easter breakfasts, and one other event
- participate in an overnight campout – usually end of June or early July
- Attend meetings: Youth and adults are needed at each meeting with occasional meetings for parents not going on the trip. Parents not on the trip may participate in the planning and preparation of this trip.
- Leadership: Consider the roles of Leader, Note taker, and Treasurer and support those who take these roles:
- Leader (call & lead meetings and encourage & oversee the following in their responsibilities)
- Note taker (emailing notes & reminders to group)
- Treasurer (track all income and expenses)
- Leader (call & lead meetings and encourage & oversee the following in their responsibilities)
- Responsibilities: choose one or more items to plan, oversee or assist with for our preparation.
- Devotions Coordinator (develop and lead devotions with the pastor during preparation and on trip)
- Fundraising Coordinator (coordinate gift cards and oversee delegation of other fundraising)
- Preparation Coordinator (encourage conditioning &coordinate education on leave-no-trace, wildlife, fishing, etc)
- Hiking Coordinator (oversee choosing of destination, registration, hiking routes, Ranger communication)
- Group Gear & Kit OVERSEER Coordinator (delegate overseers for Group Gear: food, tents, maps, cookware, and Kits: First Aid, toilet, repair, water purifiers, stoves, bear info & prep, fire

- Transportation & Travel Coordinator (oversee vehicles, travel route, reservations, and options)
- Publicity-Report-Communication Coordinator (promote and inform the congregation)
- Health & Safety Coordinator (CPR certification, First Aid kits, medical forms, altitude awareness)
- Safety demands that there be clear rules and complete obedience to the rules. Anyone who is disrespectful or uncooperative poses a very great risk and may need to be sent home at their parents’ expense.
- Sleeping bag, backpack, and hiking boots are essential to this trip and are to be purchased or borrowed two months beforehand and that each person’s body is well conditioned and adjusted to their shoes and backpack.
- Cost is phenomenal! Besides hiking boots all individual gear can be borrowed. All group gear, travel, lodging, and nearly all meals are covered by the registration fees, fundraisers, and accumulated Grace group gear.
- Group gear: Low cost of this trip is dependent on good care of Grace’s group gear and kits and people donating or lending the use of individual gear needed for the trip and participating in
- Individual gear: Ability to do this trip well for all is dependent on each person severely restricting what they bring. Learning to let go, trust and plan are key parts of spiritual, emotional and physical training.
- Medical Form: overseen by Health Coordinator & kept by CPR certified adult in each backpacking group.
- Know the above: each person on the trip is responsible to know the expectations, responsibilities, safety, gear, preparation, and training. This is necessary even if you cannot attend a certain meeting where the topic is covered.
- Fundraising: Those not participating in fundraising or significant leadership pay $350($150 if participated in one fund-raiser) due Jun1
